YEAR 7/8 CANBERRA CAMP

The journey to Canberra was a serious endeavour but worth the ten-hour bus trip. The itinerary was jam packed with a variety of guided tours of both the old and new parliament houses where similarities between the houses were highlighted and the passing of a bill to create laws was explained. The Australian Electoral Commission was hands on with students conducting a mock election to showcase how the preferential voting system works. The Royal Australian Mint had a variety of common and extremely rare and beautiful coins on display, some worth tens of thousands of dollars, while the Australian War Memorial provided an insight and an opportunity to reflect upon the history of Australia’s involvement in wars throughout the world. Students toured the National Dinosaur Museum along with the National Zoo and Aquarium and tested their reflexes and fitness at the Flip Out Trampoline Park, Questacon and the Australian Institute of Sport. A terrific time was had in our country’s capital city, a destination many may not have the opportunity to visit.
